In mid-November, MCP Presents announced the 2014 return of Counterpoint Music & Arts Festival to Kingston Downs, GA from April 25th to 27th. Though the first year of the festival included primarily electronic music artists, like Bassnectar, Avicii and Skrillex, the 2014 lineup is a clear departure from the original approach; the 2014 lineup boasts a mix of both well-known artists and newcomers that span genres like rap, hip hop, indie rock and electronic dance music.
Most notably, this year will feature a performance by duo Outkast, who are reuniting just in time for the 2014 festival season (fun fact: one half of the duo, Big Boi, performed at the first fest back in 2012). Along with bringing one of the 1990s best hip hop acts back to their hometown of Atlanta, the festival also features empowering RnB singer Janelle Monae, whose voice, stage presence, and passion for music make her set one not to miss. In other words, the Counterpoint lineup is an artful blend of exactly what you want from a summer music festival – a little bit of everything.
For those who prefer more mainstream acts, there are enough big names – like Major Lazer, Krewella, Above & Beyond and Boys Noize – that your festival ticket will be worth the price. As all festivals should, Counterpoint’s lineup also includes a wide variety of relatively unknown artists, meaning attendees will have plenty of opportunity to discover some great new music.
For those who live for funky beats, Big Gigantic, Griz, Shpongle and Thievery Corporation will not disappoint – in fact Counterpoint will be heaven for fans of experimental, down tempo or generally funky electronic music; notable artists include Nosaj Thing, Thriftworks, Tycho, Ott and The Floozies. House music fans will appreciate Jonas Rathsman, Poolside, xxyyxx (best known for that trippy video with the smoking fox head), and Tourist. For those who love trap (what would a festival be without it) and bass music, artists like Cashmere Cat, Hucci, Flosstradamus, Flux Pavilion, and Rustie.
Early bird GA tickets have sold out, but tickets are still incredible affordable for a three day festival. Advanced GA tickets are $180; with camping, it’s $205 plus camping. Counterpoint offers a wide variety of VIP and camping options (like glamping!), so it’s definitely worthwhile to research your lodging options before buying a ticket.

Electric Shepherdess was born out of my frustration with nightlife options and a constant desire to dance. After a few years of adoration from afar, I partnered with my long-time friends, MASS EDMC, to spread our message far and wide. When I'm not tending to my flock, I'm writing, dancing, editing, managing, reading or curating. I believe in fancy hats and enjoy glitter, disco and lazers, often for days.
