The Colorado electronic music scene has been well-known for producing some serious talent over the last few years. Ever since Pretty Lights (or as many call him, Derek Vincent Smith) stormed the electronic music scene, acts like Savoy and Paper Diamond have followed in his footsteps. A reputation for appreciating soulful beats and the groovier side of electronica has sprung from this region, and the combination has created an environment that has birthed a truly awesome festival: Snowball Festival.

Dedicated to delivering a variety of music over 3 days, Snowball is entering its fourth year. In the past, the festival has been held at Winter Park and Vail Valley, where the inaugural event took place, however, this year the festival will be moving to the Mile High Stadium (home of the Denver Broncos) in Denver, also known as the heart of the EDM scene in Colorado. The venue shift will allow for a potentially bigger audience and crazier events, as well as a new fourth stage to add extra options.

Snowball has, once again, filled the event with the best acts in the business. Each night features a well-known main stage closing act: Friday with Knife Party, Saturday with Pretty Lights, and Sunday with GRiZ. Other stages, however, have closing acts that are just as impressive, including Justin Jay and MK, ensuring that everyone’s’ night is concluded with an astounding performance. The list of stellar electronic acts doesn’t end there, however: electronic juggernauts Mimosa, Kill The Noise, and What So Not will be laying down sets as well. Also contributing to the lineup’s laid-back vibe are Yeasayer, and Warpaint, adding electronic indie music to the already multifaceted card. Diversity is the goal of Snowglobe, mixing both electronic DJs/producers, like Clockwork and J. Philip, and indie-rock acts that incorporate live instrumentation in their music, like STRFKR and Jagwar Ma. The combination helps to create one of the most unusual atmospheres in the festival scene, promoting both high-energy, fast-paced beats as well as mellow, mind-altering music. See the full lineup below.

Pretty Lights has also planned an extra tantalizing Sunday set, called the “PLM Party” (named after his ‘Pretty Lights Music’ label). This set features Michal Menert, Paul Basic, Supervision, Elliot Lipp, as well as Pretty Lights himself. This is an absolute must-see; the PLM group has pioneered a sound of their own that has become monumentally influential in creating chill vibes across the world. They haven’t given any hints as to what they might do during this set as of yet, but, seeing that all these names will be on stage at once, it can only mean greatness.

Snowball tickets are surprisingly affordable. Three-day GA tickets range from $149.50 to $174.50; three-day VIP tickets start at $349.50 and go up to $399.50. While GA tickets gets you access to the festival grounds, VIP tickets include express entry, access to enclosed heated lounges, special main stage viewing platforms, and private bars. Single day tickets are also available for those not interested in all three days: GA single day passes are $60 and VIP passes will run you $115.

In the spirit of creating a well-rounded vacation, the festival organizers have gone so far as to offer concert attendees an option to purchase lift tickets at the nearby Winter Park Resort. You can either buy a Triple Play Pass, which offers 3 days of skiing/boarding for $109, or the Double Dip pass, which offers unlimited April access to both the Winter Park and Steamboat mountains for $169. It’s an interesting option, which could influence lodging decisions (which are also conveniently packaged for the festival). The Sheraton and Hotel VQ have some discounted rooms just for Snowball visitors. However, both packages includes only two nights (slightly inconvenient for a three-day festival). The Sheraton has options for two to four people, both just under $300, while the Hotel VQ, however, has 2 person rooms at $158, and 4 person rooms for $172.
