April 21st, 2014

After a strong debut last September, Great North Music and Arts Festival has announced its return to Norridgewock, Maine. Set to take place the weekend of September 19th to 21st, Great North serves as a nice wrap-up to the season as the weather begins to cool down in the northeast. In addition to a varied lineup of bands and DJs, the festival also features live painting by respected artists from around the country.
Great North’s initial lineup doesn’t disappoint – a diverse selection of producers, jam bands, hybrid acts and visual artists have been selected for 2014. GRiZOrchard Lounge, and Marvel Years are known for sets that blend hip-hop, electro, and funk for those who enjoy when an artist plays multiple genres within on set. Jamtronica supergroup Conspirator will also be playing this year’s fest, adding to the psychedelic experience. Psytrance producer Bluetech returns to Great North this year as does hip-hop legend DJ Qbert (a must-see for fans of old school style vinyl scratching). Genres like glitch hop and dubstep are well represented at Great North, as seen by the inclusion of producers Of the Trees and Psymbionic. Notable visual artist Alex Grey, best known for his work with Tool, will be part of this year’s festival as well. The second phase of the lineup will be announced on May 1st.

Ticket options for Great North are pretty straightforward. There are no options for single day passes, and camping and parking are included with every full-weekend pass. Prices are determined by how early you choose to commit to the festival, and are divided into three tiers. The advanced presale tier (available until May 1st) is the cheapest at $137 before fees. After that, the price increases to $157 before fees as part of the regular presale tier. Tickets will then be made available to last-minute buyers at the festival gates for $177 before fees.

Steve's obsession with music began when he was 16; he saw his then-favorite band, Metallica, play the TD Garden in Boston. His musical tastes have broadened since then, but he is still chasing that feeling of excitement & unity he felt at his first show. His introduction to the dance music came when friends brought him to a Bassnectar show, and he hasn't looked back since. When Steve heard MASS EDMC were looking for writers, he jumped at the chance to get more involved. Writing for MASS EDMC has given Steve a rare opportunity to combine two of his passions: writing & live music.
