There are many different types of festivals that attendees can opt to go to this summer, ranging from urban to camping and beyond; it can be tough to narrow down the selection without taking into consideration what the festival provides beyond musical entertainment. Future of Artistic and Revolutionary Minds Festival, commonly known as Farm Fest, offers attendees a plenitude of entertainment options along with a notable lineup. Held in Vernon, NJ, Farm Fest features workshops, yoga, inspirational speakers, and live art, and the 2014 festival boasts a lineup stuffed with big name acts. The festival has an interesting – if short – three-year history. Set to debut in 2012 featuring a lineup of mostly local artists, the festival’s debut was unfortunately cancelled just weeks before it was scheduled to premier due to permit issues. Despite the rocky start, the festival managed to bounce back for a successful, proper debut in summer 2013.

Having finally established itself, Farm Fest is now gearing up for its biggest year yet. This year’s festival will be held from June 24th to 27th at Rickey Farm in Vernon, NJ. The festival grounds will feature three stages and a silent disco arena, as well as a separate stage for live art, with fifteen unique performances planned in addition to yoga, workshops, and inspirational speakers.
While the speakers, instructors, and artists have yet to be announced, the music lineup has been released. Farm Fest’s lineup demonstrates the diverse potential of dance music and how it can draw influence from an infinite amount of genres and styles. Headliners Papadosio and EOTO are prime examples of this, having become known for blending the synths and effects of EDM with the live improvisation of jam bands. Bluetech will be returning to the festival, offering his mix of dubstep, glitch hop, and more. Esseks and Technicolor Lenses will throw down hip-hop samples over chill, bass-y beats. Hip-hop and reggae fans will also want to check out sets from New York MC Truth Now and reggae group Suburban Sensi.

Steve's obsession with music began when he was 16; he saw his then-favorite band, Metallica, play the TD Garden in Boston. His musical tastes have broadened since then, but he is still chasing that feeling of excitement & unity he felt at his first show. His introduction to the dance music came when friends brought him to a Bassnectar show, and he hasn't looked back since. When Steve heard MASS EDMC were looking for writers, he jumped at the chance to get more involved. Writing for MASS EDMC has given Steve a rare opportunity to combine two of his passions: writing & live music.
