Timeflies is a music duo consisting of 23 year-old Cal (vocalist) and 22-year old Rez (producer), which formed in October 2010. Though they got their start in Boston, Cal and Rez are originally from New York and New Jersey, respectively, and are currently living in Brooklyn. Using elements of pop, hip-hop, electro, dub step, and rock, Timeflies aims to escape genre limitations to create expressive music.

In late September, Timeflies released their debut album, The Scotch Tape, which proved to be a huge success. Only 24 hours after its release, the album soared to #8 on the iTunes overall chart and #2 on the iTunes Pop chart. Dubbed “musical masterminds” by Vanity Fair, Cal and Rez undoubtedly have a bright future in the industry.

Every Tuesday, the guys make a video for their fans. “Timeflies Tuesday” has been a great way for the fans to get a look into what’s going on in the world of Timeflies, and for Cal and Rez to get a quick break from playing concerts at colleges and venues across the country, growing their fan base and spreading their music.

Rez got an early start in production after building a studio in his basement for his high school bands. In addition to mastering music engineering software such as Reason, ProTools, and Ableton, Rez has studied classical and jazz piano, rock and jazz guitar, and jazz drums. Rez also spent his college years DJing at different Boston bars while double majoring in Music and Philosophy at Tufts University. In regards to his Timeflies production, Rez cites Pretty Lights, Dr Luke, Xaphoon Jones, and JR Rotem as major influences.

Cal has been singing and free styling since he was a teenager, and earned his college degree at Tufts University majoring in Music and Entrepreneurship. Upon joining the band The Ride in his sophomore year at Tufts, Cal fell in love with the performance side of music. This blues, funk, and hip-hop band was noted for their ability to cross musical genres. Cal later teamed up with The Ride’s drummer, Rez, to form Timeflies. Cal’s musical influences include Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin, Muddy Waters, and his favorite, Big L. Cal’s biggest strength and weakness, is his love for scotch.
