Both living in Zurich, each regularly performing as DJ’s, and both named Adrian S., perhaps it was inevitable that Adrian Shala and Adrian Schweizer would meet in 2008 and form a near instant friendship. Perhaps it was destiny. But it’s the professional bond that followed for which we are so lucky, a bond that would help them ascend the dance music community as the production and DJ duo known as Adriatique.

But inevitabilities aside, the basis of any great partnership is how one complements the other, which in the case of the Adrians, was evident from the outset. While one had honed his musical chops with House for the US and Detroit Techno, the other dwelled in deep melodies and European techno. One might gravitate towards the studio, while the other can’t resist the temptation of the booth. One is blonde, the other? Colloquially known as ‘dark-haired Adrian.’ And it is the sum of many parts that gives us what we now know so well. In the world of dance music, where producers might spend a few nights DJ’ing and some DJ’s may dabble in producing, their partnership has mastered both while bridging the perspectives of two varied backgrounds bound by the ultimate desire to forge a unique sonic signature and connect with the audience that shares in their deeply held belief that music is meditation.

Forging relationships with artists and labels that share in their sensibilities, Adriatique has released on Zurich’s Cityfox, LA’s Culprit, New York’s Wolf & Lamb, London’s Supernature, Canada’s My Favorite Robot and most frequently, Hamburg’s Diynamic, which first brought them to the forefront with “Deep in the Three.’ Building upon their hard work and an increasingly aware and receptive audience, Adrian and Adrian enjoyed a seminal 2013 when they debuted on RA’s list of Top 100 DJ’s and their exclusive podcast was voted Mixmag Mix of the Year, not to forget the standout Podcast for BPM. And having released standout tracks “Rollox” on Diynamic, “Space Knights” on Cityfox and the “Midnight Walking” EP on Culprit, 2014 has only seen a continuation of their ascension.

Ultimately, though, it may be Adriatique’s presence at clubs in all corners of the globe for which they may be most loved, a joint approach to DJing hard to put to words but may be described as the work of true track selectors with a sound that’s at once varied yet cogent, a journey of choice tunes that are techy or deep, contemplative or energetic, constant tension and release that leaves jaws on the ground and dancing legs sore. They are staples of The Cityfox Experience events in New York City, in Ibiza for the last three years, notably Diynamic’s outdoor Parties and Festivals, and have earned a well deserved appearance at Time Warp Holland in the winter of 2014, all the while maintaining a tireless schedule the world over. It’s hard not to stay tuned to what they bring next.

Brooklyn situated DJ and producer Brian Cid is a sheer force of musical talent that has taken the underground electronic music scene by surprise. Without a doubt, DJ Mag calls Brian ‘a producer’s producer, a kind of rare genius.’ His lush, complex, sensory-provoking music is achieved by instinct and a carefully refined selection of sounds – a true testament to his ear for music. Brian’s extensive experience and background in music lends him structure, however, in the studio it all takes a back seat as his intuition takes the reins.

After going to school for five years to study music business, production, and audio engineering, Brian became a professional mixing engineer – now for over ten years. Under the tutelage of renowned hip-hop producer Ski Beatz, Brian further refined his aptitude and attitude in the studio. In hip-hop circles, Brian became the music engineer of choice for names such as Wiz Khalifa, Mos Def, and Snoop Dogg. Not long after, Brian made his mark in pop music as well, engineering tracks for the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Cher. Looking for the next challenge, Brian was greatly intrigued by electronic music production because of its very technical approach. His first hand at producing house music landed him a phone call from New York house legend Todd Terry. Under Terry’s instruction, Brian gained not only musical knowledge but a newfound confidence in his own work.

His productions have earned him accolades across the board from longstanding underground acts such as Richie Hawtin, Pete Tong, Lee Burridge, Claude von Stroke, and Mark Knight. Old-school greats John Digweed, Sasha, and Danny Tenaglia have highly praised his work as well – the ultimate compliment for any producer. Amidst all the attention his work has garnered, Brian still remains a stalwart, humble producer. Many of his releases are sported by a roster of illustrious labels: Guy J’s Lost & Found, Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Sound, Philipp Jung’s Get Physical, Berlin’s Save Us Records, Canada’s microCastle, and Zurich’s Cityfox. Still overflowing with music that he would like to impart to the world, Brian launched his Brooklyn-based label ‘Extinct Records’ as a nonrestrictive platform for his ideas – soon to begin expanding with musical ideas from talented artists who have been close to him over the years.

Perhaps what gives Brian the greatest edge as a DJ, especially at such a young age, is his ability to play hours of his own music. As the underground electronic music scene watches him come into his own, Brian’s sound has already left quite an impression on the dance floor. With a rapidly-expanding repertoire, his musical journeys are bringing him in front of new crowds across the continents. In the U.S. alone, Brian has played at various leading dance music venues all around the country – Output, Stereo Montreal, Primary Chicago, Treehouse Miami, and Le Jardin Los Angeles just to name a few. Internationally, he has toured throughout North and South America, the Middle East, Europe and South Asia. As word of his music spreads and his talent takes him all over the world, Brian Cid’s name will soon be on everyone’s lips.
