Diplo (Philadelphia-based DJ and producer Wesley Pentz), incorporates such disparate influences as Miami Bass and Baile Funk into the high-tech ecclecticism of his productions. Known for his forward-thinking productions for MIA, Bonde Do Role and many others, and for the solo LP of cinematic, sample-based hip hop entitled Florida he recorded for the Ninja Tune imprint. Diplo is also the founder and owner of Mad Decent records, which has put out records by DJ Blaqstarr and Bonde do Role.
Switch (the pseudonym of British producer and DJ Dave Taylor) is the owner of one of the most progressive and respected underground dance music labels around, Dubsided. His work as producer is revered by critics, emulated by his fellow DJs, and sweated hard by dance floors on both sides of the Atlantic. Switch also permanently endeared himself to the bespectacled music cogniscenti with his contribution to Santigold’s critically acclaimed self-titled debut.
Alex Ridha – better known to the world as BOYS NOIZE – has been making electronic music and working as a DJ for over half of his life. He established himself as one of the world’s preeminent wizards behind the decks, having played the world’s biggest stages alongside the biggest names in dance music.
His sets are equally uplifting, not only technically but also as a showman, leaving unforgettable experiences for the witnesses. One of the reasons why the Rolling Stone voted BOYS NOIZE amongst the Top10 `DJS WHO RULE THE EARTH` in 2012.
As a recording artist and producer, Ridha has created his own sound, and pioneered his own brand, amassing a formidable body of work in the process. He has released three albums (2007’s Oi Oi Oi , 2009’s Power and 2012´s Out Of The Black) and countless singles as BOYS NOIZE, as well as doing profoundly influential work as a remixer and producer for everyone from Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Feist, David Lynch to Jarvis Cocker, Santigold, Scissor Sisters and Chilly Gonzales. He has collaborated with Snoop Dogg, genius film maker Mr. Oizo (on a project called Handbraekes), Erol Alkan, and most recently Skrillex (under the moniker of Dog Blood) and won Beatport’s ‘Best Electronic Act’ 3 years in a row.
Ridha is also the heart of Boysnoize Records, the label that he started back in 2005. Founded originally as a means to get his own music out into the world, Boysnoize Rec.—and it’s sub-label, BNR Trax—is now home to more than a dozen artists (including up-and-comers like 18-year old SCNTST, Le1f, Spank Rock, Strip Steve, Peaches and Siriusmo) and responsible for over 100 releases while remaining fully independent.
“I don´t compromise when it comes to music,” says Ridha. “I do what I think is cool and what I like and not what the market wants or people may expect. Maintaining artistic freedom has always been the most important thing to me — for my own music and for anyone on my label”
Despite his ever-expanding label roster and the increased demand for his time as a producer and remixer, Ridha’s primary loves continue to be the twin pursuits of making and performing music.
Following the release of his third long-player Out Of The Black in late 2012, he presented the first BOYS NOIZE ‘LIVE’ show to the masses. “I really wanted to give people a concert where I perform my music only. It´s not that I don´t like DJing anymore, I´m a DJ to the bone and will always be. But playing my tracks live and putting on a completely new show was something I wanted to do for a long time. It´s different and fresh and that is what I love.”
There’s a big sound coming out of Miami. It’s a loud, in your face sound with a hip-hop lean and sometimes a tropical vibe. It’s dirty, sexy and full of hype, and it’s called GTA.
Matt Toth and Julio Mejia make up the dynamic duo. Dedicated to their music, they stay holed up in their bedroom studio building beats that can set off any kind of dance floor. They’re stealing the stage from their hood to New York, LA and everything in between, and it just comes down to how they play their game.
Producers without borders, their catalogue of sounds span the gamut without limitations. They’ll experiment with trap music, house, moombahton, funky electro, booty bass, salsa, big room, anything they can put their flavor on. With “Death to Genres” as their battle cry, their mission is to set the room on fire and get all the asses clapping, every time.
GTA’s future sound has them sought after some of the biggest names in the dance music game. They’ve had releases on Diplo’s Mad Decent, Ladback Luke’s Mixmash and A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold Records. They’ve remixed various artists from all genres, including Michael Woods, Trinidad James, Deadmau5, Wolfgang Gartner, Clockwork, Laidback Luke and A-Trak.
Armed with endless creativity, a tireless work ethic and a fierce dedication to their craft, GTA are carving their name into the minds of dance floors freaks everywhere, and you can count on them to deliver the goods, each and every time.
