Flume, a 21 year-old beatmaker from Sydney, is set to be one of the breakout stars of 2013. Flume got his first taste for producing at age 13 from the most unlikely of places – a music production program he found in a cereal box. Taking a no-holds-barred attitude to music creation, Flume takes inspiration from a wide variety of sources and scenes distilling his sound into a melodic bass heavy style that is uniquely his own. Flume is one of the first generation who doesn’t know life before the internet and perhaps this explains his global appeal. Praise has come from the likes of The Guardian, Clash, i-D, Dazed, The Line of Best Fit and FACT Mag in the UK while across the pond, Pitchfork, Fader, XLR8R and the New York Times have all marked Flume as one to watch. He recently penned a deal for the UK & Europe with Transgressive Records, home to Foals, Two Door Cinema Club, The Antlers as well as signing to Mom + Pop (Neon Indian, Sleigh Bells) for North America. He is equally popular in his native Australia with across the board support from national alternative broadcaster triple j and taste-making community stations and blogs. His debut EP ‘Sleepless’ was soft released in August 2011 and was been #1 on the iTunes Australia Electronic Chart for several weeks and in the top 10 for several months. Flume released his self-titled debut (via Future Classic) in his native Australia in November 2012, where it shot straight to #2 on the ARIA Album Chart (beaten only by a band called ‘One Direction’) and – remarkably – spent most of his debut week on top of the iTunes album chart. The album has been in the iTunes Top 10 since its release and achieved Gold status in Australia (35,000 units) midway through December. Flume’s production ability is matched by his live show, which has come into full effect after touring with the xx, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Chet Faker as well as numerous Australian festival performances (including Parklife, Splendour in the Grass), a couple of sold-out Australian tours and no less than 8 acclaimed showcases at this year’s CMJ conference in New York. January 2013 will see Flume perform his first European shows with dates in London, Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Warsaw and Dublin.
Harley Streten has produced an LP that’s scarily close to perfect. Streten’s achieved something rare here: music with mass appeal, but with nothing derivative or by-numbers about it.’ 4.5 stars, Rolling Stone

“Flume has developed a sinuous sample-based, hook-heavy palette…” – Pitchfork
“The album “is full of lovely electronic melodies pivoting on aching chord sequences and featuring multiple guest singers.,,Streten is one of the most accomplished purveyors of this genre with no name that we’ve heard in quite a while.” – The Guardian
