Born and bred in New York City, music producer Blockhead has been touring across the country since last month to promote his latest album “Bells and Whistles.” This project, released in November 2014, imbues nostalgic samples à-la Pretty Lights combined with a grungy hip-hop flair, putting Blockhead in a lane all his own.
The man behind the music, Tony Simon, grew up in Manhattan with a strong affinity for hip-hop and rap lyricism. An MC-turned-producer, he attended Boston University back in 1994. Although he only stayed for one year, he linked up with his classmate at the time Aesop Rock, beginning a creative and fortuitous collaboration. Early on in his career, Blockhead focused on making beats for other rappers but began to delve into original music composition around 2004 and is now five original albums deep in his repertoire.

Boston duo Arms And Sleepers joined Blockhead for the first leg of the tour, while California’s own Mono/Poly will be supporting at the last eight stops.
Don’t expect to rage at The “Bells and Whistles” tour. This musical experience will have you vibing out to Mono/Poly’s jazzy downtempo sounds and bouncing to Blockhead’s eclectic electronic beats. At a time when the worlds of hip-hop and electronic music are continuing to coincide and merge, you’ll be surrounded by a diverse audience filled with enthusiasm for progressive and experimental artists.

4/30 (Thu): Good Room, Brooklyn, NY

5/1 (Fri): Middle East, Cambridge

5/2 (Sat): Signal Kitchen, Burlington, VT
